This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, July 26th, 2007 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS are still singing sporadically in the hardwood forests along the north shore of Lake Superior. Mike Steffes heard six males on the 21st at the north end of Moose Mountain in Cook County, and one at the top of the service road in the northern part of Tettegouche State Park in Lake County.

Jan Green found nine adult SANDHILL CRANES on the 19th in a recently harvested field along the Toivola Road (CR 743) southeast of Toivola, and one near the junction of the Sax Road (CR 28) and CR 7. Sandhill Cranes have also been observed recently along the Pequaywan Lake Road (CR 44) about 2.5 miles north of the Fox Farm Road (CR 266), as well as in Normanna Township.

Jan and John Green found a probable TRUMPETER SWAN on the 22nd near the northeast side of the 40th Avenue West Erie Pier area in Duluth. They also heard a WOOD THRUSH on the 24th along the Old North Shore Road (CR 290) near the Sucker River crossing.
