This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, November 8th, 2007 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The INCA DOVE along 3rd Street in downtown Two Harbors was still being seen as of the 8th. It has mainly been seen in the backyard of 304 2nd Avenue, especially under the dense cedars and bird feeders near the garage. It has also been seen in the back yards of each of the seven houses to the west.

The MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD pair at Grand Marais was also still being seen as of the 6th. They have been seen at several locations around the harbor, including the municipal campground and most recently near the Shoreline Motel. Craig Mandel and others found a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE on the 6th northeast of Grand Marais at 1427 Croftville Road. Kim Eckert and others found two HOARY REDPOLLS on the 4th at the Grand Marais municipal campground, and one was relocated on the 6th. Kim’s group also found a first winter THAYER’S GULL and a SURF SCOTER in the Grand Marais harbor, a BLACK SCOTER in Hovland, and several LONG-TAILED DUCKS between Five Mile Rock and Hovland.

Conny Brunell and Susan Schumacher found a female MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD on the 2nd at Park Point in Duluth, between the recreation area and the Sky Harbor Airport. Ben, Joshua, and Peter Yokel found a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE on the 3rd along Skyline Drive at Hawk Ridge, about 0.25 mile west of the main overlook. Rebecca George reports that a female BOBOLINK is still coming to her feeders below Hawk Ridge at the corner of 47th Avenue East and Tioga Street.

Jan Green reported an AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER on the 4th near the Lighthouse Point B&B in Two Harbors. Bob Ekblad, Diane Anderson, and others saw one over the weekend at the Hawk Ridge Pinewoods Trail, 0.7 mile east of the main overlook. Uwe Kausch found a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER on the 4th at his feeders on the Wildwood Road, one mile west of the Homestead Road (CR 42) in Duluth Township. BOREAL CHICKADEES have been seen by several observers at Iona's Beach Scientific and Natural Area at mile marker 42 along MN Highway 61, at Sugarloaf Cove and the Grand Marais campground in Cook County, and at Stoney Point in St. Louis County.
