This is the Duluth Birding Report for September 3rd, 2010 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A MISSISSIPPI KITE was seen by Cameron Rutt and others at the Hawk Ridge main overlook on the 1st. A flock of 47 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS also flew by on the 1st and a flock of 25 was seen on the 2nd. The record high count for CEDAR WAXWINGS was more than tripled on the 29th when Cameron and others counted 11,661 during four hours on a rooftop near Lester Park.
Cameron found a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER on the 28th on Park Point near Lafayette Square. Shawn Zierman saw a flock of 50 STILT SANDPIPERS on the 29th along the St. Louis River in Morgan Park.
Dave Grosshuesch saw a record early LAPLAND LONGSPUR on the 1st in northern Cook County.
