This is the Duluth Birding Report for June 2nd, 2011 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

Peder Svingen saw two THAYER'S GULLS on the 2nd on both sides of the Superior Entry. This is only second time one has been recorded in Minnesota during the summer season. Peder also saw a first-cycle GLAUCOUS GULL on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry on the 2nd, which is the third latest date for the state. On the 31st Peder saw a record late GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry.

Mike Hendrickson saw five RED-THROATED LOONS on the 28th at the Lafayette Square 31st Street access on Park Point. Shawn Zierman saw one on the 29th at the Park Point Recreation Area. Karl Roe saw a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER on the 30th at the Recreation Area, and the NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was still present on the same day. Greg Garmer saw three RUDDY DUCKS on the 31st at Indian Point in West Duluth.

Sharon Lind and Sarah Grosshuesch saw an adult GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL on the 28th in the Grand Marais harbor.
