This is the Duluth Birding Report for September 27th, 2012 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A female HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen by Paul Johnson on the 25th and 26th in the Grand Marais harbor. Paul also saw an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN here on the 25th. Bob Myers found a WESTERN GREBE on the 26th at the Silver Bay Marina in Lake County.
Peder Svingen found a PACIFIC LOON on the 23rd at the Park Point Recreation Area, and it was relocated on the 26th by Mike Hendrickson. Ann and Scott Wischert saw a FIELD SPARROW and VESPER SPARROW on the 23rd at Brighton Beach in eastern Duluth.
SABINE'S GULLS, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, PARASITIC JAEGERS, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER and SURF SCOTERS were reported from Wisconsin Point over the weekend of the 22nd, but I have not heard any reports of these crossing into Minnesota waters.
