This is the Duluth Birding Report for December 18th, 2014 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
The GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROW found by Jeff Newman at his backyard feeders at 44th Avenue East and Regent Street is still present as of the 18th. It is being seen sporadically in his yard and in the alley above his home, on both sides of 44th Avenue East. Birders are welcome to look for the bird but Jeff asks observers to stand by the corner of his front porch and not in his yard.
The COMMON EIDER in Duluth was see as recently as the 13th near the Aerial Lift Bridge and on the 14th on both sides of the Superior Entry, but I am not aware of any reports since the 14th. The male HARLEQUIN DUCK was last reported on the 9th at 21st Avenue East. Mike Hendrickson saw an adult ICELAND GULL on the 14th at Canal Park.
A TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was found by Dave and Sarah Grosshuesch on the 14th at the entrance to the Two Harbors municipal campground. Small numbers of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were seen on the 14th at Stony Point, Knife River, and the Larsmont Cottages.
