This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday February 14th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

In Washington County, Tom Tustison found a KILLDEER on the 8th. It was seen near 100th Street just south of Jamaica Avenue. He also found two YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS in the creek area near 103rd and Hadley Street. This is just across the road from mail box 10399 on Grey Cloud Island Trail. One of these birds was of the Audubon's race.

On the 9th, a GREAT GRAY OWL was found by Mike Hendrickson one mile west of St. Louis County road 110 on county road 16. On the 10th, Audrey Evers found two Great Grays in this same general area. One was on county road 110, five and a half miles north of county road 16. The other was on county road 16, one and a half miles west of the intersection with county road 11.

A pair of NORTHERN HAWK OWLS can be found in Cook County, near the Gunflint Pines Resort property.

An adult ICELAND GULL was found by Terry Brashear roosting on the sandbar behind the power plant on Black Dog Lake in Burnsville, Dakota County. A GLAUCOUS GULL was also reported.

Finally, several callers have reported seeing EASTERN BLUEBIRDS. While it is not that unusual for this species to overwinter in the state, reports do seem to be up this year.

This state-wide birding report is brought to you and financially supported by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union (MOU). The MOU is Minnesota's oldest and largest bird club.

MOU members receive this report directly on MOU-net, the club's free e-mail listservice, which is available to anyone interested. For information contact Paul Budde at pbudde@aol.com.

MOU members receive the organization's quarterly journal "The Loon," and the bi-monthly magazine, "Minnesota Birding." For membership information, send an e-mail message to our membership secretary at moumembers@yahoo.com.
