This is the Minnesota Birding Report for October 28th, 2010.

A CALIFORNIA GULL was seen by Mike Hendrickson on the 27th on the Minnesota side of the Superior Entry of Park Point in Duluth.

I have several reports of sea ducks from around the state which I will summarize here: A BLACK SCOTER and four WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were at the 12th Street lot of Park Point on the 27th; nine WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS and six BLACK SCOTERS were at Stoney Point in St. Louis County on the 23rd; seventeen BLACK SCOTERS, fourteen WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS, seven SURF SCOTERS, and three LONG-TAILED DUCKS were at Burlington Bay in Two Harbors, Lake County, on the 27th; three WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS were in Hovland, Cook County on the 23rd; four BLACK SCOTERS were at Five Mile Rock near Grand Marais, Cook County on the 23rd; a BLACK SCOTER was at Plughat Point on Lake Winnibigoshish, Itasca County on the 23rd; four SURF SCOTERS were at the Thief River Falls wastewater treatment ponds in Pennington County on the 23rd; and on the 28th, a LONG-TAILED DUCK was at the northern end Vadnais Lake, Ramsey County.

In Two Harbors, Ben Stubbs saw three TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES on the 23rd at Burlington Bay along 1st Street.

Warren Nelson and Bill Stauffer found a GREAT GRAY OWL on the 24th along Aitkin County Road 18, three and three-quarter miles east of U.S. Highway 169.

And on the 23rd, there was a CATTLE EGRET on the beach at Lake Waconia Regional Park in Carver County.
