This is the Minnesota Birding Report for March 31st, 2011.
On March 27th, Jim Lind found an AUDUBON'S WARBLER at Lighthouse Point in Two Harbors, Lake County. It was foraging on the ground and in the conifers on the east side of the lighthouse fence.
On March 28th, John Cyrus counted 680 TUNDRA SWANS in southwestern Carver County and on the 30th his total was 1,341.
Today in Grand Rapids, Itasca County, Shawn Conrad saw a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE at a feeder on Clover Lane just east of Arby's. This is the farthest north this species has yet been reported in the state.
Betsey Beneke saw the first BROAD-WINGED HAWK of the season in Sherburne County on the 29th. Other migrants reported over the last few days include GOLDEN EAGLE, WILSON'S SNIPE, RING-BILLED GULL, SHORT-EARED OWL, LONG-EARED OWL, EASTERN PHOEBE, SWAMP SPARROW, and RUSTY BLACKBIRD. The next scheduled update of this tape is April 7th, 2011.
