This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday August 9th, 2012.
Brad Bolduan found a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER on August 2nd along U.S. Highway 71 in Cottonwood County, about a mile south of the Redwood County line.
On the 5th, Peter Nichols reported a SWAINSON'S HAWK near U.S. Highway 61 and Jamaica Avenue in Cottage Grove, Washington County.
Interesting was the YELLOW RAIL found by Kiki Sonnen in Wabasha County on August 4th at the Richard Dorer Pools. The location was along state highway 74, about two miles southwest U.S. Highway 61 near a blue sign marked with the number 14947.
On the 3rd, Chad Heins found a male BLUE GROSBEAK which was singing on a power line on the south side of Renville County Road 15 about a mile east of county road 12.
Recent southbound migrants include MARBLED GODWIT, RED-NECKED PHALAROPE, OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER, TENNESSEE WARBLER, MOURNING WARBLER, NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and EVENING GROSBEAK.
