This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Monday, June 23rd, 2014.

We have been having trouble with the machine used to produce these reports, but at least for now, the problems seem to have been resolved.

On June 20th, a WOOD STORK appeared at a farm in rural Faribault County, and it was still present today. From Interstate 90, go north on U.S. 169 for approximately one mile. Turn left on county road 6, then west on county road 8 for three and a half a miles. Turn left on to county road 5 then turn right at the last driveway before crossing over interstate 90. Park in the farm yard and check in the grove of trees to the west.

Dan and Erika Tallman found three YELLOW-THROATED WARBLERS at Whitewater State Park in Winona County on June 21st. They were at the Gift Shop parking lot. These were first reported by Kiki Sonnen on June 3rd.

On June 2nd, Doug Kieser and Scott Meyer found a EURASIAN TREE SPARROW in western Yellow Medicine County. It was at the bridge over Florida Creek on 140th Street, just north of 250th Avenue. This is about two miles west of county 15 and three miles north of state highway 68.

On the 22nd, Bob Williams found a CATTLE EGRET in a wetland at farm #12174 on the east side of McLeod County Road 89 between 140th and 115th. On June 18th, Bob Dunlap found both a Cattle Egret and a SNOWY EGRET in a pasture on the south side of Swift County Road 22 about a quarter mile east of 20th Avenue. This is just over two miles east of Clontarf.

A few BELL'S VIREOS have been discovered since the last update of this report. Linda Whyte found them in the trees west of the Xcel plant in St. Paul, on Randolph Avenue south of Shepard Road. Two were at Frontenac State Park in Goodhue County on the 10th, along the prairie trail. A Bell's Vireo is frequenting the northwest corner of the Prairie Loop Trail at Afton State Park in Washington County.

On the 21st, a SUMMER TANAGER was at the southern end of the Trout Brook Loop Trail at Afton State Park. The bird was reported from there up to the intersection of this trail and the Prairie Loop Trail.

There was a late ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at the Sax-Zim Bog on June 16th, just west of the junction of Poplar Road and Arkola Avenue.

Most unusual was the NORTHERN SAW-WHET OWL reportedly calling from the lower campground at Lake Carlos State Park on June 17th. This would be an unprecedented summer record.
