This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday October 23rd, 2014.
A RED-PHALAROPE was seen briefly in Mower County on the 21st, but it has not been refound. It was at the Brownsdale wastewater treatment plant about a mile north of town on highway 56.
On the 19th, a CALIFORNIA GULL was at the Superior Entry of Park Point in Duluth.
The RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD first reported from Le Sueur County on September 15th is still being seen daily. It is visiting the Nesgoda yard in the town of Le Sueur at 30627 Pumpkin Hill Road.
A juvenile FERRUGINOUS HAWK was recorded at the Bethany Hawkwatch in Mankato, Blue Earth County on the 20th.
As many as three TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES have been at the Ann Lake campground at the Sherburne NWR since the 20th. From the town of Orrock, go south on Sherburne County Road 5 for about a mile, then turn east on the campground road and go for another mile. Park at the small parking area on the south side of the road and walk the trail beyond the yellow gate.
A late WHITE-FACED IBIS was reported on the 18th at the Kvernmo WMA, two and a half miles south of Hendricks in Lincoln County.
On the 23rd, a WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was at Taconite Harbor in Cook County. On the same day, a LONG-TAILED DUCK was on Lake Superior at Two Harbors, Lake County. And a late WILLET and CATTLE EGRET were both at the Bass Ponds area of Bloomington. I also have reports of ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, GOLDEN EAGLE, WINTER WREN, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, and COMMON REDPOLL.
