The winter weather is on the doorstep now, with blizzard warnings in the southern part of the area and cold winds here in the north. The counties to the far northwest are not forecast to get much , if any , snow, but the cold will come anyway. We can expect new avian arrivals after this passes and feeders should be very active then.

This week in Hubbard County, Marshall Howe reported RED CROSSBILLS all week, and two NORTHERN SHRIKES, one on November 13, another on November 16. He saw 35 SNOW BUNTINGS on November 17, and 50 BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS on November 13. There are still some COMMON GOLDENEYE, HOODED MERGANSERS, and BUFFLEHEAD in Hubbard County, and a few AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and PURPLE FINCHES can be found.

Connie Cox reported that she had seen a SNOWY OWL in a field along the Mississippi River near Itasca SP on November 8.

In Becker County , Marshall Howe saw a dark ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK on November 13.

Beth Wright reported a SNOWY OWL in Polk County on November 12, along CR 20 north of Sherack. Two COMMON REDPOLLS found the yard of Sandy Aubol in East Grand Forks on November 15.

In Pennington County, I saw a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER on November 17 in a yard along Oakland Park Road in Thief River Falls .

In Lake of the Woods County, Jane Croeker saw COMMON REDPOLLS on November 13.

Larry Wilebski observer a YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER and several BALD EAGLES on November 13, one mile south of the Canadian border in Kittson County.
