The next two weeks will bring the majority of migrants to the northwest; already, warblers are starting to be reported, and the next days will bring most of the rest. Trees are almost fully leafed out, so warbler watching will be a challenge this year. Rain in varying amounts fell during three days this week, so the area is wet, and gravel roads will be sloppy for a few days.

Al Batt reported a WESTERN TANAGER in rural Carlos, Douglas County , at the home of LuWanna Hintermeister on May 7. Beau Shroyer saw a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW near Nelson on May 7 and a LINCOLN'S SPARROW on May 9.

Dan and Sandy Thimgan in Otter Tail County saw WARBLING VIREO, YELLOW WARBLER, and BALTIMORE ORIOLE on May 7, and on May 8, there was a ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK. They reported RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER , and RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD on May 9. Jeff and Amy Drake saw 50 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS south of Fergus Falls on May 6, and on the 8th, YELLOW WARBLER and AMERICAN REDSTART. May 10, they found SPOTTED SANDPIPER and BOBOLINK.

Matt Mecklenburg reported a NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD in Clay County on May 9. To get to the location, take CR 34 to CR 110, and the bird was at the first house to the west on the north side of the road. UPLAND SANDPIPER was also found in that county. Mel and Elaine Bennefeld on May 9 reported a COMMON LOON in the Buffalo River at the Ponderosa Golf Club, and also saw a RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD.

On May 4, Lorraine Seaberg reported a WESTERN TANAGER at Seaberg Oil in Becker County along US 59 about a mile north of US 10 near Detroit Lakes. Shar Legenhausen reported RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK on May 7. Dave Hochhalter had a BALTIMORE ORIOLE on May 9.

Bruce Flaig in Polk County reported YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, and HARRIS'S SPARROW on May 6. On the 7th, they were joined by HOUSE WREN, and ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, and on the 10th, he observed BALTIMORE ORIOLE. Bob Russell discovered a GREATER PRAIRIE-CHICKEN in downtown Fertile on May 10, and 60 SMITH'S LONGSPURS along CR 45 two miles west of MN 32. In addition in the Glacial Ridge area were TRUMPETER SWANS, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, GOLDEN EAGLE, MARBLED GODWITS, and LE CONTE'S SPARROW.

Shelley Steva saw an UPLAND SANDPIPER in Red Lake County on May 8 eight miles east of Plummer.

Shelley reported a BOBOLINK in Pennington County on May 5. Two GRAY PARTRIDGE were seen between Thief River Falls and St. Hilaire along MN 32 on May 6. On May 8, in our yard we had GRAY-CHEEKED THRUSH, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, BROWN THRASHER, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, and NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH in addition to the several species of sparrow that have been with us for the last week.

Jeff Nygaard found a CATTLE EGRET at Agassiz NWR in Marshall County on May 5 along the Lost Bay Habitat Drive, and on the 6th, he reported EARED GREBES, and an AMERICAN BITTERN there. Also on May 5, a PEREGRINE FALCON was spotted at Pool 21, and on May 11, a PALM WARBLER was seen by Gary Tischer along the Maakstad Trail. Steve Broten reported on May 8 that two SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen in the county south of Newfolden. Other species reported by Steve included WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, HARRIS'S SPARROW, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, and RUSTY BLACKBIRD.

Beltrami County sightings reported by Pat Rice on May 6 included CLIFF SWALLOW, HERMIT THRUSH, and five species of warblers including GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER. On May 8 Kelly Larson reported two COMMON LOONS on nests near Bemidji, CHIMNEY SWIFT, EASTERN WOOD-PEWEE, EASTERN KINGBIRD , and BALTIMORE ORIOLE. A trip to Blackduck on May 10 yielded 9 species of waterfowl, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, and several species of warbler.

Martin Kehoe in Lake of the Woods County reported a NORTHERN HAWK OWL at milepost 53 along MN 72, and SHARP-TAILED GROUSE on CR 80 on May 8.
