This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, May 22, 2003, sponsored by
the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.
A first-winter-plumage LITTLE GULL was seen on Sunday in the harbor off the
soccer field at Park Point.
23 WHIMBRELS were seen on Monday, and and at least 6 were still present
today in the vicinity of Hearding Island in Duluth. Other shorebirds seen
this week include BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER, AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER,
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, LESSER YELLOWLEGS, WILLET, RUDDY TURNSTONE,
SANDERLING, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, and DUNLIN. Most of
these sightings were on Minnesota Point.
Over 200 BONAPARTE'S GULLS, 150 COMMON TERNS, and 1 TRUMPETER SWAN have
been seen at Hearding Island this week.
On May 17, 10 BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS were found on Moose Mountain in
Cook Cty.
