This is the Duluth Birding Report for Thursday, August 21, 2003 sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

The first fall flights of COMMON NIGHTHAWKS took place over the past week. Jim Barrett reported 4401 birds on the 18th, and there have been small flights each day since then.

Jim also reported several species of shorebirds from the mudflats at Morgan Park, including PECTORAL SANDPIPER, SANDERLING, SEMIPALMATED PLOVER, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, LEAST SANDPIPER, and both yellowlegs.

Kate Kellenberger reported 5 RED-NECKED GREBES from Hungry Jack Lake on the Gunflint Trail on the 17th.

The next scheduled update of this report will be in two weeks on Thursday, September 3rd.
