Yesterday Tom Auer saw two breeding plumage RED-THROATED LOONS. The birds were seen on Lake Superior from the observation deck nearest the airport on Minnesota Point.
Nancy Jackson reported six WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS from Hoyt Lakes on the 21st. Jim Barrett reported the first GREATER YELLOWLEGS (9 birds) on the 16th. There are still BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS and COMMON REDPOLLS in Duluth in small numbers. Gordy Martinson reports that WOOD DUCKS have begun laying eggs. Frank Nicoletti reported two SWAINSON'S HAWKS on the 19th at the West Skyline Hawkwatch. A group of at least 21 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS was reported from several places around Duluth this week.
New migrants reported this week include HERMIT THRUSH, CHIPPING SPARROW, LE CONTE'S SPARROW, SWAMP SPARROW, and WHITE-THROATED SPARROW.
