This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Wednesday April 14th.
This report is being updated a day early because of the BLACK-NECKED STILT that was seen today in northwestern Ramsey County. A single Black-necked Stilt was found along the north shore of Spring Lake in Mounds View near the Anoka County line. After being flushed, the bird circled the area and departed to the west and has yet to be seen again. If it is relocated, this report will be updated.
A total of 1490 SANDHILL CRANES was reported on the 13th in Norman County. They were found along a one mile stretch of road just to the north and west of the Agassiz-Olson WMA. This is one mile south of the Polk County line and about two to three miles west of County Road 30.
A WHITE-WINGED SCOTER was reported from the Minnesota River in Hennepin County on the 13th. The location was directly across from the Black Dog power plant.
A first winter THAYER'S GULL was reported from the Pine Bend landfill in Dakota County on the 10th.
A first county record EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE was in Darryl Moen's yard on the 13th in rural Buffalo, Wright County on the 14th. Two Eurasian Collared-Doves were in Farmington, Dakota County on the 10th but I have no specific details.
A pair of LOGGERHEAD SHRIKES was at Minneopa State Park in Blue Earth County on on the 13th. They were in the prairie area toward the west end of the park.
SWAINSON'S HAWKS have been reported from Dakota County and elsewhere in Southern Minnesota. I also have recent reports of RED-NECKED GREBE, AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, MARBLED GODWIT, SPOTTED SANDPIPER, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, PURPLE MARTIN, RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLER, SWAMP SPARROW, and FIELD SPARROW.
