The POMARINE JAEGER, which had been reported over the 20 past days has not been seen since Sunday the 24th. Though it had been fairly easy to locate from the main marina in the town of Lake City in Wabasha County, this last report was from Reads Landing, which is about 8 miles southeast of Lake City.
The BARROW'S GOLDENEYE, which has been seen by several observers at the Blue lake settleing ponds in Shakopee was last reported on the 24th. Blue Lake is located about 2.5 miles west of state highway 13 on state highway 101 in Scott County.
A SNOWY OWL was reported by Diane Anderson from Mower County on November 25th. It was located south of the town of Grand Meadow on Mower County road 8, 1/2 mile east of county road 3. Another SNOWY OWL was found just west of the town of Minnesota Lake in Faribault County on the 19th, and John Schladweiler reported that two SNOWY OWLS were found together on the 24th near Lac Qui Parle Lake in Lac Qui Parle County, about five miles southwest of the Swift County town of Appleton.
Doug Johnson reported that a NORTHERN HAWK OWL can be found along Beltrami county road 20 near the Turtle River about 8 miles east of Lake Bemidji State Park. This bird was first discovered on November 20th by Steve Mortenson and has been at this same location since then. Warren Nelson reported that the NORTHERN HAWK OWL he called in last week can still be found 6/10ths of a mile west of the junction of Aitkin county roads 5 and 18. WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS and PINE GROSBEAKS are also being seen in this general area.
In Jones Township, Beltrami County, a VARIED THRUSH visited a feeder on the days of November 23rd, 24th and 25th, and I have a second hand report of another VARIED THRUSH at a feeder in the town of Welch in Goodhue County.
Craig Kelsey observed a flock of over 100 SNOW BUNTINGS behind the Wild Bird Store in North Oaks, Ramsey County on the 21st, and SNOW BUNTINGS were also reported from Mower, Olmsted, Aitkin and Hennepin Counties.
Other birds reported over the past week include COMMON LOONS -- still on Lake Harriet in Minneapolis as recently as the 24th; a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK in Jim Williams yard in Minnetonka on the 27th; an adult THAYER'S GULL at Black Dog Lake in Dakota County on the 27th; and a HARRIS' SPARROW seen at a feeder on south Whitney Street in the town of Marshall, Lyon County. I also have several reports from around the state of HOODED MERGANSER, RED-BREASTED MERGANSER, COMMON MERGANSER, BALD EAGLE, MOURNING DOVE, NORTHERN FLICKER, HORNED LARK, AMERICAN ROBIN, CEDAR WAXWING, NORTHERN SHRIKE, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, LAPLAND LONGSPUR, BROWN-HEADED COWBIRD and PURPLE FINCH.
