The Ruff was still present at the posted location from 5:30 - 6:30pm. The
bird was across the lake, on the West side. It was actively feeding along the
shoreline and in the water close to shore during the time of my observation.
By walking to the South shore of the lake you can get a much closer view if it
is feeding on the West side of the lake. Barb & Denny Martin also observed
the bird on the NE corner of the lake and this would be easily viewed from the
road. Please note if you walk down closer to shore on the East side there is
Poison Ivy mixed in with the grass. The plates in the large Sibley Field guide
and Shorebirds an identification guide of the molting male most closely
resemble the plumage that the bird is in.

A male RUFF was found in Big Stone County today (25 July) by Peder
Svingen and Jeanie Joppru. From the junction of Big Stone County
Roads 12 and 10 go east .4 miles east on County Road. Turn north on
unmarked dirt road for 3/4 of a mile. The bird is in pot hole on left.
