This afternoon at 3:45 pm Susan Schumacher and I relocated the previously posted Yellow-breasted Chat. It was still in the general area posted and after 90 minutes of walking and listening it vocalized and gave us brief looks as it perched on an open Sumac branch. The bird soon dove for cover again and disappeared to start singing further east on the trail.

Black Dog Preserve is in Burnsville, Dakota County. It can be reached by taking Cliff Road east about 1 mile from Interstate 35W. There is a large sign for Black Dog Reserve, Cliff Fen Park on the north side of the road. The trailhead and kiosk are on the north side of the soccer field east of the parking lot. From the kiosk at the trailhead, go across the railroad tracks down the trail and continue east on the trail until you pass under the transmission towers. The Yellow-breasted Chat was seen about 1/2 way to the next set of towers on the north side of the trail only a few feet above the ground.

Also heard vocalizing were 3 Bell's Vireos, and a Henslow's Sparrow amongst the many regular nesting birds of the Fen.
