Fellow birders, I spent Memorial Day weekend at McCarthy State Park north of Chisolm. This park has some beautiful old growth Red and White Pines andsome terrific trails. I saw a total of 46 species with 13 being warblers. There were large amounts of Red Crossbills seen on each dayconcentrated in an area near the intersection of CR 65 and Pickerel Rd. just north of the campground. The Crossbill flocks totaled maybe 80birds but may have been the same flock of about 30 birds seen again and again. The other big surprise of the trip was a male Black-throated Blue Warbler singing on the Red Top Trail on Friday. There were also many Pine Warblers in the area which are a state bird for me. Good Birding, Jason CaddyMinneapolis
