Once again, bird reports were scarce this week, but activity should increase soon with the beginning of the southward warbler movement.

At the Hamden Slough NWR in Becker County, shorebird activity remains much the same, with just a slight increase in numbers. Species found there on August 3rd included:

Killdeer Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Solitary Sandpiper Spotted Sandpiper Marbled Godwit Semipalmated Sandpiper Least Sandpiper Pectoral Sandpiper Buff-breasted Sandpiper Short-billed Dowitcher Stilt Sandpiper Wilson's Phalarope

A BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER was also reported by Michael Tarachow on July 25th south of Barnesville along Wilkin CR 29.

At Maplewood State Park in Otter Tail Co. on July 30th, Sally Heuer and Paul Spreitzer found a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK, BARRED OWL and several common warbler species.

Joe Gartner reports that the Buffalo River Bird Monitoring Station concluded it's first summer's efforts on July 30th. Most common birds banded this year were gray catbird, common yellowthroat and clay-colored sparrow.

Thanks to everyone who shared sightings. The next scheduled update of this report is Friday, August 11th.
