Two BOREAL OWLS were reported by Dave Lambeth on January 28th in Beltrami County, along CR 42 about one mile west of the town of Thorbolt.

GREAT GRAY OWLS have been reported in three locations over the past week - along Hwy. 310 north of the town of Roseau in Roseau Co. - six miles NE of Norris Camp along Roosevelt Forest Road in Lake of the Woods Co. - and two birds were along Hwy. 89 a few miles south of Fourtown in Beltrami Co.

NORTHERN HAWK OWLS have been reported from three locations - one was along Roosevelt Forest Road about 7 miles NE of Norris Camp in Lake of the Woods Co. - two more were seen along Hwy. 72 between Waskish and Baudette in Beltrami and Lake of the Woods counties - and another bird was along Hwy. 89 just south of Fourtown, also in Beltrami Co.

Mark Otnes reported seeing many RED CROSSBILLS in the Beltrami Island State Forest and Red Lake WMA as a group traveled along the Faunce-Butterfield Forest Road toward Norris Camp. PINE GROSBEAKS were also present at the feeders at Norris Camp in Lake of the Woods Co.

As of February 1st, A SNOWY OWL was still present near the Bemidji airport in Beltrami Co. using the power line poles beside Hannah Ave. Another SNOWY OWL remains along Marshall CR 3, approximately six miles SW of Old Mill State Park.

Gretchen Mehmel and Beth Siverhus found a NORTHERN GOSHAWK just north of Brown's Lake, about 4 miles east of Norris Camp in Lake of the Woods Co. on the 27th. Another NORTHERN GOSHAWK was found about 15 miles north of Fourtown in Beltrami Co. by Mark Otnes and crew on January 27th.

On February 1st, Doug Johnson had a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER in his yard near Bemidji in Beltrami Co.

Other birds reported this week include Northern Shrike, Gray Jay, White-throated Sparrow, Common Raven, Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl and Sharp-tailed Grouse.
