A NORTHERN HAWK OWL, two GREAT HORNED OWLS and PINE GROSBEAKS were along Hwy. 310 north of the town of Roseau in Roseau Co. on the 3rd, reported by Liis Veelma and company.

Another NORTHERN HAWK OWL was reported by Beth Siverhus on the 5th about one mile west of the small town of Loman on Hwy. 11, west of International Falls in Koochiching Co.

For the past 3 weeks, Beth has also been seeing a SNOWY OWL perched on power poles along Hwy. 11 in Roseau Co., about 4 miles east of the town of Roseau.

The SNOWY OWL was still present this week near the Bemidji airport along Hannah Ave. in Beltrami Co.

The Hartnesses, who live at the NE corner of Cotton Lake in Becker Co. have been in finch heaven this week. Kay reports up to 70 AMERICAN GOLDFINCHS, along with PURPLE FINCH, PINE SISKIN, PINE GROSBEAKS and EVENING GROSBEAKS.

On February 3rd, Colin Gjervold and company found SNOW BUNTINGS in Clay and Becker Counties; a flock of 100+ LAPLAND LONGSPURS northwest of Rothsay in Wilkin Co.; a HOODED MERGANSER and a pair of TRUMPETER SWANS with five (large) young in the Pelican River in northern Otter Tail Co.

Sally Hausken reported a flock of 35 SNOW BUNTINGS north of Breckenridge along Hwy. 9 in Wilkin Co. on the 4th.

Other birds reported this week include mallard, bald eagle, ring-necked pheasant, pileated woodpecker, common raven, gray jay, belted kingfisher, red-winged blackbird, brown creeper, dark-eyed junco and a female northern cardinal at feeders in the Rydell NWR in Polk Co.
