Three SNOWY OWLS were reported over the past week. Birds were found in Roseau County at the Roseau Lake WMA, 3 miles west and 5 1/2 miles north of the city of Roseau. Another bird was at the Roseau River WMA near the Pool #3 Sanctuary. And the third bird was reported on November 1st at Lake Bronson State Park in Kittson County. Other birds at the park included TUNDRA SWAN, BALD EAGLE, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, MERLIN, RUFFED GROUSE, SHARP-TAILED GROUSE, AMERICAN WOODCOCK, EASTERN BLUEBIRD and COMMON REDPOLL.

Several hundred SANDHILL CRANES were still present along Polk County Rd. 45 west of State Hwy. 32 on October 29th. Other birds observed in Polk Co. included TUNDRA SWAN, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE, AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, DARK-EYED JUNCO, SNOW BUNTING, RUSTY BLACKBIRD and PINE SISKIN.

Donna and Leon Thoreson in Polk County had a late LARK SPARROW in their yard on the 26th, following that early season blizzard.

On October 28th, Mark Otnes birded at the Hamden Slough NWR and found a AMERICAN BLACK DUCK and BLACK-BILLED MAGPIE. At the Tamarac NWR this past week, birds observed included COMMON LOON, TRUMPETER SWAN, BALD EAGLE, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, WILD TURKEY, COMMON RAVEN, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, EASTERN BLUEBIRD, CHIPPING SPARROW, SONG SPARROW, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, NORTHERN CARDINAL, PURPLE FINCH, PINE SISKIN, AMERICAN GOLDFINCH and EVENING GROSBEAK.

Other birds reported from the northwest this week included RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER, PILEATED WOODPECKER, FOX SPARROW and HARRIS'S SPARROW.
