A SNOWY OWL was seen this past week near the Wetlands, Pines & Prairie Audubon Sanctuary near Warren in Polk County. The bird was observed about 2 miles west of the sanctuary on the township road.

Another SNOWY OWL was observed on the 8th, just north of the Norris Fire Tower which is about 2 miles east of Norris Camp in the Red Lake Wildlife Management Area, Lake of the Woods County. GRAY JAY, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH, PINE GROSBEAK and EVENING GROSBEAK are among the birds at the Norris Camp feeders. BALD EAGLE, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, RUFFED GROUSE and SPRUCE GROUSE have also been reported in the area.

At the Roseau River Wildlife Management Area in Roseau County, a few thousand ducks are still present, mostly MALLARDS. A dozen or more BALD EAGLES were observed here also, along with a NORTHERN CARDINAL.

Jeanie Joppru reports a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER regularly visiting feeders in her yard, just outside the city of Thief River Falls, Pennington County, and a MERLIN was spotted near Zion Church in the city last week.

Birds observed at the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge in Becker County this past week include BALD EAGLE, ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, SNOW GOOSE, TRUMPETER SWAN, WHITE-THROATED SPARROW, NORTHERN CARDINAL, RED CROSSBILL and EVENING GROSBEAK.
