The BAIRD'S SPARROW originally found by John Richardson at The Nature Conservancy's Glacial Ridge Project in Polk County on June 18th has been observed as recently as July 3rd. Directions to the site are to go 3.5 miles west on U.S. Hwy. 2 from its junction with State Hwy. 32, then turn south unto the gravel pit road. Go past the office and follow the main road that goes SE one mile from Hwy. 2. The sparrow's territory is on the west side of the road between the road and the large concrete slab. Other birds observed at Glacial Ridge this week include UPLAND SANDPIPER, SANDHILL CRANE, SWAINSON'S HAWK, WESTERN KINGBIRD, DICKCISSEL, LE CONTE'S SPARROW, and NELSON'S SHARP-TAILED SPARROW.

Herb Dingmann found a BLACK-BACKED WOODPECKER drumming on the west side of the Headwaters parking area at Itasca State Park, Clearwater County, on July 3rd.

Dave Hochhalter reported RED-HEADED WOODPECKER and NORTHERN CARDINAL at his home outside Detroit Lakes, Becker County.
