On June 2nd, Jeanie Joppru found an adult male BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLER on the Maakstad hiking trail at the Agassiz National Wildlife Refuge in Marshall County. Unfortunately, the bird could not be re-found later in the day. There were also a number of WESTERN GREBES near the headquarters that same day.

On the 5th, a CONNECTICUT WARBLER was observed in the Beltrami Island State Forest, Roseau County. The bird was singing on territory at the edge of the jack pines just SE of the junction of Thompson Forest Road and Black's Winner Forest Road. There were other birds heard singing along Thompson Forest Road also. This species might also be found along Highway 310 north of Roseau in the tamaracks near mile post 8.

COMMON LOON chicks have been reported in Becker and Ottertail Counties this week. MALLARD broods were reported from Agassiz and Tamarac NWRs. The WOOD DUCK box being observed by a remote video camera at Rydell NWR in Polk County recorded the young hatching and leaving the box. When you visit at Rydell, ask to see the video. Also at Rydell, a SANDHILL CRANE chick appeared on the 4th and an AMERICAN BITTERN was observed at Round Lake.

The Thimgans in Ottertail County report SORA and BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO, along with nesting RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and BALTIMORE ORIOLE on their property.

At the Hamden Slough NWR, Becker County, this week, birds observed included AMERICAN AVOCET, MARBLED GODWIT, a number of "peeps", LE CONTE'S SPARROW, BOBOLINK and YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD.
