This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, September 5th, sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

An adult WHITE-FACED IBIS was discovered at the Tyler Wildlife Management Area in Lincoln County. Roger Schroeder found the bird on September 4th, and earlier in the week a possible PIPING PLOVER was reported here. This area is just west of the city limits on U.S. Highway 14. He also found two immature ibis at Island Lake in Lyon County on the 5th. Take state highway 19 west to Lyon County Road 13. Drive south for about 3.8 miles.

Bob Janssen and Jerry Bonkoski found a YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT at Lac Qui Parle State Park in Lac Qui Parle County on September 2nd. The bird was about a quarter mile west of the entrance to the park in a dense thicket.

Up to 53 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were at the Osakis sewage ponds in Douglas County on the 1st and as many as a hundred were here on the 5th. Twelve Red-necked Phalaropes were at the Sleepy Eye sewage lagoons in Brown County on the 2nd, and 220 were at the Thief River Falls Sewage Ponds in Pennington County on August 30th.
