This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, August 16th 2007.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE has been visiting a feeder near Clearwater, Stearns County for the past week. When I am able to make contact with the home owner, I will post information on visitation schedules.

In Jackson County, a BLACK-HEADED GULL was seen by John Ellis on the 11th at the north end of Big Spirit Lake on the Minnesota - Iowa border. This is at the grade along Jackson County Road 2. He also reported a flock of 19 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES at Salt Lake in Lac Qui Parle County on the 12th.

On the morning of August 15th, Bob Dunlap observed a LITTLE BLUE HERON as it flew past him at Fisher Lake in Scott County. This is the large wetland on the west side of the U.S. Highway 169 bridge across the Minnesota River in Shakopee. There is a parking lot just west of 169 on Scott County Road 101.

Warblers are moving southward across Minnesota, though the highest totals and variety are still being reported in the northern parts of the state. Sixteen species were observed by Peder Svingen at Southworth Marsh on Park Point, Duluth, on the 13th, though most were birds that also nest in the state. Fourteen species were found by Chet Meyers in Minneapolis on the 15th.

The next scheduled update of this tape is Thursday, August 23rd 2007.
