This is the Minnesota birding report for Thursday January 14th sponsored by the Minnesota Ornithologists' Union.

That VARIED THRUSH reported last week from a feeder in Maple Grove, Hennepin County, at 15967 105th Ave North was still present on January 8th. And the VARIED THRUSH reported by Steve Shadd at his home east of Pine City in Pine County was still present on January 11th.

A small flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was reported by Darryl Moen on January 8th along Sherburne County road 5, between Orrock and 246th Street. There was a single BOHEMIAN WAXWING seen by Diane Anderson, frequenting a Mountain Ash tree in her Rochester, Olmsted County yard. Also in her yard is a juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKER.

A CAROLINA WREN is still visiting the feeder of Betty Turnham in Medina, Hennepin County, at 1512 Deer Hill Road.

On January 12th there were three SHORT-EARED OWLS hunting along 70th Ave. southwest between Olmsted County Road 25 and 20th Street southwest.

A NORTHERN GOSHAWK has been seen in Hennepin County in the town of Edina, but no specific directions were given.

Other birds reported include SNOW BUNTINGS from several locations; numerous AMERICAN ROBINS, including over 100 seen by Manley Olson along University Ave. in Minneapolis, plus SHARP-SHINNED HAWK, COOPER'S HAWK, and ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK,
