As I explored Washington County, north of Hwy 94, I stopped at Square Lake
County Park. The ope water was opposite my position, but in my scope I saw 5
swans (they'd have to be Tundra, right?). They were with Canada Geese and
completely dwarfed them size wise. The general outline and coloring were all that
I could see to make a definitive ID of "Swan" - either Tundra or Trumpeter. I
also saw a Northern Shrike on the wires on Otchipwe Av. North, just south of
County Road 7. Lake Elmo is still pretty open, but the duck variety is slim:
Common and Hooded Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes.
