At 10:00am today (Nov. 1) I found 2 juv/female type Black Scoters at =
Lake Byllesby, Dakota County. The birds were among a flock of about 150 =
divers, mostly Lesser Scaup and Ruddy's. They were seen from the dam at =
the east end of the lake (Gerlach Way), and from the small park just =
west of Gerlach Way on the south side of CR 88. They are in the middle =
of the lake (app. 400+ m from shore) and thus very near the Goodhue Co. =
line. Your call.

The birds were in sleeping posture nearly the entire time, only briefly =
unfolding long enough to show the round head, puddle duck-like =
forehead-bill profile, and whitish Ruddy Duck-like cheek patch. =
Noticeably larger than adjacent scaup and slightly smaller than adjacent =
male Gadwall. Vapor distortion soon made it very difficult to see =
detail. A good scope is essential.
