I have received several requests for directions to Morgan Park. I =
thought it may be useful to post the directions here, so that anyone who =
wants them can easily copy them. =20

There are links to maps below, but I'll start with written directions. =20

I'm assuming you're coming from the south (Twin Cities?). If so, go =
north on I-35 until you come to exit number 246 (also marked as Co. 13, =
or Midway Rd.). This is a few miles north of the Black Bear Casino and =
is well-marked. =20

Take the Midway Rd. exit, then turn RIGHT. Drive about 5 miles until =
the road ends at a T-intersection with Commonwealth Ave., also known as =
MN Hwy. 23 (you might notice that Co. 13 / Midway becomes Co. 3 / =
Beck's Rd. shortly after you turn off I-35). =20

Turn LEFT and drive 1.5 miles to the stoplight at 88th Ave W / Arbor =
St. (indicated by a sign for "Morgan Park"). Turn RIGHT and drive to =
the 4-way stop (88th Ave. W & Concord St.). You'll see a SuperAmerica =
station on your left. =20

There are two options at this point. You can EITHER:

1. Turn LEFT on Concord and drive 4 blocks until it comes to a "T" with =
84th Ave. W, then park your vehicle by the playground that you'll see =
out of your driver's window. Walk down the sandy path by the =
playground, toward the river (aka Spirit Lake), and, when you reach =
the tracks, the point is to your right and the mudflats are on the side =
facing you. =20
                    =20
                                                              OR

2. From the intersection of 88th and Concord (by the SA station) =
proceed further on 88th Ave. W. until you come to Falcon St. Turn LEFT =
on Falcon and drive 4 1/2 blocks until it ends in a sort-of cul-de-sac. =
Walk down the trail that goes into the woods there, bearing left toward =
the river and, when you reach the tracks, turn RIGHT. Walk a tenth of a =
mile or so until you come to a trail on your left (after you cross the =
mini-trestle over the creek). Turn left and head east down the trail =
about 1/4 mile until you see a passage to the left, which will take you =
right out ONTO the mudflats. The flats are comprised of foundry sand =
from the old steel mill, and are firm enough easily to walk on, allowing =
very close approach to the birds. =20

Following are links to maps. If the two compressed links don't work, =
then use the long links which follow those. In each pair, the first =
link is a larger scale map showing the exit off I-35, as well as the =
Morgan Park area, while the second link is a more detailed map of Morgan =
Park, showing the point. =20

Please feel free to e-mail me or to call me at 218-626-4916 if you need =
help. If I'm home when you come up, I'd be happy to show you the point.
The mudflats expand and recede, depending upon the winds and Lake =
Superior's seiche.  Be forewarned!=20
