Date: Friday, April 16, 2004
Time: 8:40 AM
County: Hennepin
Location: Haeg Park, 83rd and Penn Ave S. =20
Observers: Pat Clements and Don Carroll
Notes:
We parked in the small parking lot right off of 83rd and Penn. The Ross' =
Goose was still at the north end of the lake near the hockey rink. We =
were able to get very close views. It even came out of the water and =
stood around with some Mallards that were on the shore. It took off and =
after flying around for a while came to rest in a field to the left of =
the hockey rink. There were some regular Canada Geese there as well as =
the suspected Richardson's Canada Geese. It was very easy to tell the =
difference in size as the Ross' goose and regular Canada Geese as well =
as the suspected three Richardson's Geese were all within 8' of one =
another. We had views of the Ross' within a couple of feet of the =
smaller Canada geese and they were the same size. We checked our book =
and found the size of the smallest Canada Geese at around 25" and the =
Ross' listed at around 23". From what we were able to tell they are =
Richardson's.=20
Also found a Belted Kingfisher, Coot, Ring-billed Gulls, Red-winged =
Black birds and a flock of Franklin Gulls (about 15).=20
Good birding to all... Pat
