Field Trip Report
40 - species observed
4 - participants
Enjoyed a cloudy day of birding in Wabasha, Winona and Olmsted Counties on
Monday. Our group found a few unusual species for this time of year and
enjoyed a very large flock of Cedar Waxwings on CR 26, just West of Hwy 74 in
Wabasha County. We also were able to relocate the previously posted Mute Swan on
Lake George in Rochester. Here were a few of my favorite sightings from the
day.
@ Mute Swan - 4:00pm - Lake George in South Western Rochester
@ Red-breasted Nuthatch - 11:00am - Feeders at Whitewater State Park
@ Swamp Sparrow - 3:00pm - 2 observed at the Eastside WMA on Olmsted Cnty Rd
9. The
birds were observed just SE of the parking
area along CR 9 and were
actively calling (chip note's only).
@ White-throated Sparrow - 3:15pm - Quarry Hill's Nature Center
@ Snow Bunting - 4:30pm - 20th St SW, 1/2 mile East of Olmsted Cnty Rd 3 -
The Snow
Buntings were in a mixed flock of several 100
Horned Lark's and Lapland
Longspurs.
@ Lapland Longspur - see above
