Hi everyone,
We are standing at 45 species seen on the day of our count, before =
feeder results. Overall numbers were much lower than last year, but we =
did have a count first, a sandhill crane, which has hung around since =
summer and still appears very healthy. Other highlights were a single, =
very cold-looking great blue heron and two belted kingfishers. Also seen =
were one snow bunting and a flock of around 50 lapland longspurs.

A grand total of 6 ring-necked pheasants were observed and no wild =
turkeys at all. Most disturbing in their absence were red-headed =
woodpeckers which have always reliably been found at Nerstrand Big Woods =
State Park. The ranger there hasn't seen them for awhile, and other =
birders who have checked on them recently haven't been able to turn up a =
single one.=20

All that was seen for owls were barred and great horned. No saw-whets =
like we usually turn up.

Good birding!
