One of our co-workers came in this morning with a report of a Northern
Hawk Owl perched on a dead limb of an aspen tree near her bird feeders
on ~ 1PM December 25 in St. Michael, eastern Wright County. She noticed
all the birds suddenly leave the feeding area and went out to
investigate. The bird flew to a crabapple tree, but allowed her to
approach within several yards. She got a very close look and was able
to detail a description of the owl. At the time, she did not realize
the significance of the sighting. Although she did not want her address
given out, she did promise to keep a camera close by to see if she could
take a photograph, if the bird reappears today. She also promised to
call me right away!
