I spent some time in the area around Lake Winnie this morning. I was
looking for ducks (didn't find much) and Aaron Alto suggested that I =
should
check CR 146. It ends at a point on the west side of Bowstring Lake. =
It's
a good thing I took his advice because about halfway between the small =
town
of Inger and the point I had excellent looks at a Great Gray Owl. Seems
like they are appearing all over the northern part of the state.

I also saw a Red-bellied Woodpecker (not easy to find in Itasca County) =
near
the Plughat Point Campground on Winnie. Another nice find was a =
Northern
Shrike at the Forest History Center in Grand Rapids.
