Recent travels around Dakota County show that the fields have dried out and no longer are inviting habitat for shorebirds.
The sod fields (Castle Rock, Empire area) are also dry. Many of the marshes are swollen and the shoreline is in the
vegetation Other shorebird sites:
Lake Bylessby (Friday) still has the best shorebird habitat in the county.Found at least six species of shorebirds on the
sand bars on the west end of the lake.
L. Yellowlegs (7)
Pectoral Sandpiper (2)
Semi-palmated Sandpiper
Willet (2)
Semi-palmated Plover
Killdeer
Also: Franklin Gulls (9)
140th Street Marsh(about Tuesday): Waters are unusually low. Good habitat, no birds.
180th Street Marsh (Tuesday?) Water is high. Habitat is limited
