Birded Murphy early this morning and then went to Lake Byllesby and
ended up getting drenched, muddy (I slid down a hill after slipping) and
not seeing much there (rain was too hard to really see much), however I
did get a few interesting things...
Murphy was generally quiet, but after 2.5 hours of work I ended up with
several warblers, mostly in small waves of 6-8 birds of 2-3 species at a
time:
Ovenbird (lots)
Blue-winged Warbler (lots)
Yellow Warbler (Many)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (many)
Blackpoll Warbler (3)
Golden-winged Warbler (1)
Cape May Warbler (1)
American Redstart (a few)
Mourning Warbler (1)
Palm Warbler (1)
Also had:
Bobolink (3)
Cedar Waxwing (7)
Gray Catbird (several)
Sedge Wren (1)
House Wren (several)
Field Sparrow (a few)
Fox Sparrow (2)
Lake Byllesby had:
Tennessee Warbler (1)
Yellow-rumped Warbler (many)
Yellow Warbler (a few)
Barn Swallow (Lots)
Bank Swallow (A few)
Northern Rough-winged Swallow (a few)
American White Pelican (lots)
Caspian Tern (7 flying over)
Northern Shoveler (lots)
Blue-winged Teal (lots)
Short-billed Dowitcher (2)
Lesser Yellowlegs (many)
The rains came before I could pick out much more, though someone who was
there before me said he saw Semipalmated plovers, and dunlin amongst
other things. Had I known Steve Weston saw the Piping Plover there, i'd
have waited to see if the rains would abate....have to return tomorrow I
suppose.
On the way back I hit 140th...surprise surprise, it wasn't
raining....but birds were few...
140th had:
Spotted Sandpiper (3)
Lesser Yellowlegs (1)
Loggerhead Shrike (1)
