This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, May 26th.
Herb Dingmann reported an adult male CINNAMON TEAL in southern =20
Mahnomen County on the 26th. The location is on the south side of =20
county road 12, about a third of a mile west of county road 3.
In Clay County, the ROCK WREN and the two SAY=92S PHOEBES are still =20
being seen daily. Directions from the town of Felton are to go south =20
on state highway 9 for two miles. Turn east on county road 108 and =20
drive to the T intersection. Follow the gravel road left and north to =20=
the gravel pit area.
I have a secondhand report of a YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER seen on or =20
about the 22nd in Dakota County, along 155th Street between the =20
avenues of Angus and Barbara.
Peder Svingen found a BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK in Rock County on the =20
24th. It was along the road that runs east then north of the water-=20
filled gravel pits that are south of Blue Mounds State Park. Note =20
that the grosbeak soon disappeared and Peder was unable to relocate it.
Out of range was the LARK BUNTING found today in Ely, St. Louis =20
County. On the north side of town, turn right on state highway 1 for =20
one block, then left on the dirt road. Check for the bird along the =20
ball field fence line.
Bill Marengo found four AMERICAN AVOCETS at mile marker 17 of highway =20=
28 just east of Barry in Big Stone County.
In Duluth, nine RED-THROATED LOONS were seen by Sparky Stensaas on =20
the 23rd, past the Sky Harbor Airport on Park Point, and three =20
PARASITIC JAEGERS were seen out from the recreational area of the =20
Park Point on the same day. An ARCTIC TERN was reported over the =20
weekend but not recently.
There have been many reports of NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD over the past =20
week. One was seen on the 21st in Scott County just west of Murphy =20
Lake Boulevard in the southwest corner of Murphy-Hanrehan Park and =20
about half a mile north of 175th Street. On the same day, another was =20=
at the Minnesota River Valley Refuge Headquarters in Minneapolis. In =20
western Brown County, Brian Smith found one along 400th Avenue, just =20
north of the intersection of 140 Street. On May 24th, Bob O'Connor =20
found a Northern Mockingbird in Moorhead's Gooseberry Park in Clay =20
County. Check the edge of the woods from the park shelter to the =20
footbridge. Four were along the north shore of Lake Superior, =20
including one on the UMD campus at St. Marie Street and University =20
Drive in Duluth on the 24th, another at the scenic overlook over Boy =20
Scout Landing in west Duluth on the 21st, one on the west end of =20
Stoney Point Drive near Knife River, and another at the Two Harbors =20
lighthouse on the 23rd. In Hennepin County, Karen Murri reported one =20
on the lawn behind the office building at 2381 Rosegate in Roseville.
Cole Foster reports a SUMMER TANAGER on the 20th at the southeast end =20=
of Linwood Lake in northern Anoka County and near the northwest =20
corner of Carlos Avery WMA. To get to the location, take Jordell =20
Street north from Lexington Avenue to a T-intersection at the =20
southern end of Linwood Lake. Take a right at the T and park at the =20
dead end. There is an informal trail at the dead end which leads to =20
the main trail that runs along the eastern shore of Linwood Lake. The =20=
bird was in the area where the informal trail intersects the main trail.
Thanks to the numerous callers who reported their sightings over the =20
last several days.
The next scheduld update of this tape is Thursday, June 2nd.
