Dave Grosshuesch and Jim Lind (and the rest of the NRRI bird crew) located a
female AMERICAN THREE-TOED WOODPECKER near Isabella on the Stony River
Forest Road at 8:45am today. The location is 1/2 mile south of the
intersection of the Stony River Loop. She called a few times on the west
side of the road, then flew over to the east side and foraged for a minute,
providing good views.

Other "good" birds seen/heard included two Great Gray Owls, one on the Stony
River Loop and one at the intersection of Highway 1 and the Stony River
Forest Road; a Black-throated Blue Warbler heard singing on the Stony River
Loop; and an Olive-sided Flycatcher a couple of miles south of the
intersection of the Stony River Forest Road and Stony River Loop, as well as
a Lincoln's Sparrow at the same location. Boreal Chickadees have so far
proved elusive after 2 mornings of crew training.
