I led a St. Paul Audubon biking and birding trip in central MN last =
weekend. On Saturday, we biked on the Lake Wobegon Trail in Stearns =
County from Avon through Albany to Holdingford and back, a round-trip =
distance of 33 miles. On Sunday, we biked on the Central Lakes Trail in =
Douglas County and a corner of Grant County from Brandon to Ashby and =
back, a distance of 28 miles. We saw or heard 97 species. Highlights:

- a pair of Orchard Orioles building a nest below eye level, 15 feet =
from the trail
- a pair of Eastern Meadowlarks in Stearns County (at the edge of their =
nesting range)
- Veeries singing in Stearns County (at the edge of their nesting range)
- a Blackburnian Warbler in a flock of Tennessee Warblers
- two Connecticut Warblers heard (one glimpsed)
- long, close looks at a Black-billed Cuckoo (one of five seen) and many =
more common species
- fresh air, exercise, scenery, camaraderie, and no rain after the first =
10 minutes.
