On Friday, August 25th, 2006 I visited the Upper Sioux Agency State Park
Campground southeast of Granite Falls in Yellow Medicine County to check for
fall migrating warblers. A total of 16 Warbler species were observed along
with an Olive-sided Flycatcher and a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher. Warbler
species seen included Northern Parula, Morning, Blackburnian, Blackpoll,
Wilson's and Canada among others.
The highlight of the day was the Carolina Wren seen and observed singing at
12:05 p.m. The Wren and the rest of the species were seen in the Walk-In
Campsites area which is on the southwest side of the campground in the
wooded area between the bank of the Yellow Medicine River and the entrance
road into the campground.
