Second day with a couple from Florida.

Despite the -30 below wind chills and air temps in Lake County around =
-15 degrees below zero, we saw some birds!

-Hoary Redpoll at the Isabella feeder at the Moose Ridge Cafe.
-Lots of Redpolls all along Hwy 1 and Lake Co. Rd 2
-Pine Grosbeaks, Pine Siskins and several Red. Br. Nuthatches also seen =
along the same roads mentioned above.
* Saturday the temps will be even worse and Lake Superior should be very =
steamy! I'll be birding Aitkin Co on Sunday with the same couple.

Thanks to all birders that responded to my news about Sax Zim Blog =
logging. I share Shawn Conrad's views where he said "I am not oppose to =
logging" me neither. The way I feel is like this. Remember how you =
felt when you went back to the neighborhood you grew up in or the place =
where you lived and raise your kids and you noticed how run down the =
house looks?, all the old neighbor houses look like crap, the large =
trees were cut down and the playing areas were developed and ect? =
Remember how you sat there and remember how things use to look and the =
good memories you had? Well that is how I feel what is going on in Sax =
Zim. All the places I love or the places I spent a lot of time birding =
or dragonfly collecting are being logged out. Sax Zim bog doesn't look =
the same to me anymore and there is really nothing no one can do and no =
one to blame about all these changes. Loggers have to feed their family =
and their bills too. I just wish the area they are logging did not have =
to be the better known places for birding in the Bog. By the way the =
wood they are logging out will no doubt go to Cook in St. Louis County =
for chip board or strand board. Some of it may go to Duluth at the =
Lousianna Pacific plant for the same product. I seen the same trees =
being delivered to the Cook plant.

I am just happy that the Bog along Hwy 73 will more than likely replace =
Sax Zim Bog as the place to go to locate some of the specialties that =
live in these bogs. We need a name for this bog other than "Hwy 73 bog" =
I like the "Lind Bog" since this road is almost in the heart of the bog =
and the place where Northern Hawks owls are being seen and Spruce =
Grouse. (2005) I just feel in a few short years from now we birders are =
just going to have to write out Sax Zim Bog as the place to go and see =
birds. There will be no more stands of woods worth birding and that is =
the brutal honest truth.
