This is the Minnesota Birding Report for Thursday, May 11th.

There was a report of a CURLEW SANDPIPER at the western end of Lake  
Byllesby, Dakota County on the 7th, but unfortunately the bird soon  
departed and has not been seen since.

On May 5th, a WHITE-FACED IBIS was at Danvers WMA, three miles west  
of Benson on Swift County Road 20 where the road curves to the north.  
Initially found by Curt Vacek, the bird was still present on the 6th.  
Another White-faced Ibis was at Carlos Avery WMA, Anoka County on the  
7th  just north of Pool #4.

A BURROWING OWL is being seen at the airport in Rochester, Olmsted  
County, but access is limited. It was first discovered on the 10th,  
and can be heard calling near the Aviation buildings. The access road  
is west of the main airport entrance on County Road 16.

A SNOWY EGRET was in Dakota County on May 5th. Driving west on Cliff  
Road, go a quarter of a mile past the the entrance road to the new  
Lebanon Hills visitor center and check the small wooded wetland on  
the north side of the road. A LITTLE BLUE HERON has also been  
reported roaming through the various ponds in the park. Four Snowy  
Egrets were at the Klages WMA on the 7th, along Big Stone County Road  
64, half a mile west of its intersection with county road 23.

Robert Schroeder reported a FERRUGINOUS HAWK in the area of Boon Lake  
Slough WMA in northeastern Renville County on the 8th. This is along  
880th Avenue, two miles west of Renville County Road 24.

There has been a CAROLINA WREN in the neighborhood of Lake Isabelle  
in Hastings, Dakota County. The bird was first seen around the first  
week in April and continues to visit the area. Look just off Galena  
Street near the lake.

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was along Wabasha County Road 84 across from  
fire call 61096 on May 7th. On the 9th, another was at the Felton  
Prairie in Clay County at the first house on the northwest side of  
the intersection of Clay County Roads 34 and 110. A Northern  
Mockingbird was at Lighthouse Point in downtown Two Harbors, Lake  
County, on the 6th, foraging on the rocks along shore in front of the  
lighthouse. Another was behind the DNR building at 500 Lafayette Road  
in St. Paul, Ramsey County, on the 9th. And at Park Point in Duluth,  
a Mockingbird was along the nature trail near the Sky Harbor airport  
on the 10th.

On the 10th, a male WESTERN TANANGER was seen by Lori Evrard on the  
shore of Lake Superior in Grand Marais, Cook County.  She saw the  
bird between Artist's Point and the lighthouse. A first year male  
SUMMER TANAGER at Hok-si-la Park on the 6th, north of Lake City in  
Goodhue County. The bird was near the Bald Eagle nest which is along  
the bluff.

On May 7th, Paul and Koni Fank found a SPOTTED TOWHEE in their yard  
in Dassel, Meeker County. Check along 708th Avenue near the woods.

At the Rosenau-Lambrecht WMA in Brown County, Brian Smith found at  
least three GREAT-TAILED GRACKLES. This is about three miles west of  
New Ulm on U.S. Highway 14, with the grackles on the south side of  
the road.
