Hello:
Out today with Tom Leskiw (those who are ABA members might of read a =
article he wrote in "Birding" ) Tom is from northern California. I =
always thought getting 312 for St. Louis Co was a decent total until he =
told me he has 400+ in his county!!
Highlights:
-Iceland Gull. We spotted a adult glacoides Iceland Gull flying with =
several Herring Gulls in excellent light. We were able to determine the =
gull was at least 3-4 percent smaller than the nearby Herring Gulls. A =
lifer for Tom.
-Snowy Owl in the Port Terminal area, We spotted the owl at 4:30pm in =
the field behind the cement plant. (Lifer)
Other birds:
-American Three-toed Woodpecker (male) Blue Spruce Road in Sax Zim Bog.
-Red & White-winged Crossbills along the Blue Spruce Road in Sax Zim =
Bog.
-Sharp-tailed Grouse on the lek at 10:30am along Co. Rd 29 in Sax Zim =
Bog.
-Gray Jays, Pine & Evening Grosbeaks in the Bog.
Sad News!
About 3.6 miles north of the Sax Road on the McDavitt Road on the west =
side, loggers have removed a very large chunk of tamaracks, spruce and it =
now looks like a parking lot! I posted photos of what the damages looks =
like in my website under "Recent Sightings" and I also posted a photo of =
the imm. male Snowy Owl (notice the black beanie and wing tag sticking =
out)
