Diane and I were able to re-find the Snowy Owl that had been reported
previously along either Hwy 42 or Cty 14 to the northeast of Plainview
(Wabasha County). We spotted it on a power pole on a gravel road that goes
north of Hwy 42 between mile markers 21 and 22. When we finally located the
bird it was around 4:50 or 5:00PM when it was getting fairly dark out -
certainly not the right conditions for any photographs. This location is
approximately 6 miles NE of Plainview. After a while the owl flew over to a
pole along Hwy 42 and later flew past us headed toward Cty 14. The gravel
road we were on goes north and then turns west and becomes 595th St. Other
locations where the bird has been reported in the past week or so have been
at the mile marker 22 on Hwy 42 and along Cty 14 near the intersection of
595th. This was my fourth attempt to find the bird, most all were later in
the afternoon in varying weather conditions. I suspect the bird was
probably not out and about until it got darker (after I left the area).
Tonight we arrived later and were fortunate to have the bird out and easy to
spot.

Our thanks go to those who previously reported the bird over the past week
or so. I was able to use those reports to better concentrate in the area
where we eventually found the bird.
